Summary/Abstract: This paper presents a way of interpreting Brandom’s „institutional” pattern of material inferences as a defeasible and presumptive argumentation scheme that can be used in analyzing and evaluating the practical arguments containing the arguer’s claim that she or he is committed to a social institutional status as a premise, and intention (undertaking a commitment) to act as conclusion.
