Summary/Abstract: The definition of freedom as given by the Roman jurist Florentinus is influenced by natural law (ius naturale). This definition refers to human freedom. Along time, the concept of ius in the definition of freedom was translated / interpreted in various ways. The law (ius) as a limit of human will is included in the notion of Roman freedom (libertas).
