Summary/Abstract: The process of globalization and the use of modern technologies are the main causes that have led to the fact that members of the younger generation, the so-called “millennials”, are increasingly interested in different and foreign cultural aspects, mainly researching them on the Internet. Following the world music scene in youth subcultures in local communities is a common phenomenon nowadays. The K-pop scene is increasingly drawing the attention of young people both in the global popular culture and in Serbia. K-pop or South Korean popular music is a combination of different musical orientations, primarily of various genres of Western popular music such as pop, hip hop, R & B, electronic music, and many others with Korean or generally Asian flavours and is inextricably linked to dancing and a specific visual presentation. One of the main goals of this article is to improve the understanding of the way a particular cultural product is consumed, accepted, understood and transformed beyond its local cultural framework. The questions that triggered the research are: how did young people in this area begin to listen to Korean popular music, what attracted them to it, and who, in fact, are its fans, in terms of generation and gender? Through field research and interviews with informants, the process of establishing the K-pop scene in Serbia is presented, with a special emphasis on the importance and role of dance in this “localization of the global trend.”
