Summary/Abstract: For a significant period of time, in the second part of the year 2018, the Romanian public agenda was monopolized by one of the most significant political actions carried out in recent years, a constitutional referendum highlighting the fault-lines of a political cleavage that has managed to mobilize nearly four million citizens to the polls. The present article analyses some of the ideological recourses and political mechanisms that led to the emergence of this initiative, in an attempt to describe how all this fits into the general map of domestic political competition today and how it could influence it in the near future.
