Summary/Abstract: The energy security is currently one of the fields where international community’s attention is primarily focused. Several reasons can be identified; primarily to secure the energy sources is a crucial part of the economic security as such and therefore the economic strength of particular country. As the prices of crude oil are changing and the coal as such affects the environment, main attention is paid to the nuclear energy and its potential. The nuclear energy however contains a security risk and that is the possibility to acquire nuclear weapons on the side of the nuclear program. Nevertheless the prospective of a civilian use of nuclear power is great. The following article aims at the analysis of both of these factors inherent to the nuclear power, two countries are scrutinized here. Iran and North Korea are the actors focusing mainly on the acquirement of nuclear weapons however both countries have to deal with the energy shortages and therefore the civilian nuclear energy usage is becoming part of the game.
