Summary/Abstract: Principal economic and social changes have taken place during the last twenty years in Vietnam. They have been based on the reform Doi Moi bringing changes in economic area and subsequently influencing all aspects of the social life. The congress of Communist Party of Vietnam in 1986 is officially considered to be a beginning of the reform Doi Moi. During the following period, Vietnam economy achieved many successes, despite of complicated situation in the country itself and in the world. The basis of the economic changes is multisector socialist-oriented market economy. Private ownership is put on an equal footing with other forms of proprietary and this leads to forming of a new social class. The country has generally reached successes in the areas industrialization, public health and education. Poverty and malnutrition have been substantially eradicated. It may be stated that economical development markedly advance social and politic one in Vietnam. It is questionable when and how this disproportion will lead to fundamental social changes.
