Summary/Abstract: Greeting someone with a Hello!, or finishing a letter with Sincerely, Yours truly, seems very easy for a native speaker. These expressions, basic in ordinary life communication, entail a lot of constraints noticeable only when we must use them in a foreign language. Although seemingly simple in terms of content, form and context of ordinary life when they are employed, these utterances are very singular. They are ritually emitted in common situations to which they are prototypically associated.
