Summary/Abstract: This paper is intended to identify and assess with a critical eye some of the challenges that lie ahead on the road to transparency in the Romanian public administration activity. The notion of participatory democracy is a core element of the analysis. The article offers a look into the mechanisms and instruments of participatory democracy and outlines the gap between the policies specific to decision-making transparency and the public administration activities. This review offers some explanations for the implementation gap and the disparate capacities of the administration to consistently implement these policies. The final section is dedicated to some recommendations meant to improve the relation between the administered people and the administration. The comments and assumptions expressed in this paperwork were developed using the qualitative analysis and the secondary data. These methodological tools allowed us to look at the documents regarding citizens’ interests and rights by reference to the public administration.
