Summary/Abstract: In the global world it is very essential for the people to have an opportunity to use new and alternative forms of education along with traditional education and vocational training. The level of these competencies could be ascertained and evaluated through the validation process that takes its important place in the modern social and education systems. This could contribute to a more effective building of the European social rights pillar. This article is dedicated to the specific characteristics, problems and challenges of the validation process of knowledge, skills, competencies and experience. The emphasis is placed on the employee’s needs of validation of competenciesacquiredininformal, non-formalandself-education. The objectives and tasks for validation are described and the steps taken by the validation of low-skilled workers are presented. In the end of the article is made a number of conclusions about the validation process andsome important challenges and guidelines for developments of validation are outlined.
