Summary/Abstract: The equality of chances represents in fact the way in which all peoples have the right to participate in cultural, economic, and social life, without making a distinction against them based on ethnic origin, sex, religion, age, disabilities or sexual orientation. In Romania, the principle that regulates the equality of chances between women and men is legislative mentioned in domains like work, educational access, health, education and information, decisional implication, access to services. Based on legislative criteria discrimination means: differentiation, exclusion, restriction or preference. Legislation establishes the following criteria: race, nationality, ethnic origin, language, religion, social status, convictions, sex, sexual orientation, age, disabilities, non-contagious chronic diseases, HIV infection, or any other opinion, whose purpose is to limit human rights, the essential freedom or any kind of legal rights that are recognized by law. Unfortunately, although the equality of chances is protected in Romania, discrimination manifests at every level, from didactic activities until higher society positions. In addition, beside the various types of discrimination that already exist, in communism the Romanian society had to face also political discrimination.
