Religious Attitude Level of Healthcare Workers

Summary/Abstract: The fact that people are affected by their religious beliefs while developing their attitudes and behaviors have been confirmed by many studies. Many scale studies have been carried out to identify religions as an attitude form which have such a significant influence. This study aims to determine the religious attitude levels of health professionals, consisted of physicians, nurses, midwives, health officers and health licensees. The study is limited with two state hospitals in Bolu Province. The study was conducted between February and March 2017. The random sampling method was employed. The study was conducted with 333 healths professional who volunteered to participate. The distribution of participants in terms of their job title was as follows: 20.7% of them were physicians, 71.5 of them were Nurses/Midwives/Health Officers and 7.8% of them were health licensees. Significant differences were found in religious attitudes in respect to the job titles and service periods of participants. There was no significant relationship in the scale total scores between religious attitude levels in respect to gender, marital status, working unit, educational status and age variants of the participants. In the sub-dimensional analyses significant differences were found in the relationship sub-dimension on the basis of gender, in cognitive sub-dimension on the basis of institution; in the cognitive, emotion and relationship sub-dimensions in the education variant. The level of religious attitudes of health professionals participating to the survey has been found to be moderate (26.44 ± 4.80).
