Citizenship education is fundamental to living in a democratic society. The concept of citizenship takes on meaning in specific contexts and is determined by time and place. The purpose of this study is, surveying the nature of citizenship and its implication for education. This paper explores the ways in which citizenship education is used in an effort to create particular kinds of citizens as part of a larger effort in education systems.
