Summary/Abstract: Purpose – The article refers to the deep changes in the Polish economy immediately after the Second World War, when the communist authorities imposed by Stalin gradually created a centrally planned economy system. Description – It describes the process of a specific “transition” to the system, whose failure in the 1980s opened the way to market transformation. The basis of the analysis is the descriptive method, characteristic for historical research. It made it possible to formulate conclusions on the dependence of economic system changes from political conditions. The value of the article is drawing attention to the need for a contextual, many-sided approach to economic analyse.
