Summary/Abstract: In the digital era where tertiary students are one click away from any piece of information, can reading still be a pleasure rather than a burden? This study aims to look at students’ critical thinking during and after a sustained silent reading activity (SSR) meant to improve vocabulary, spelling and writing skills, and to analyse students’ attitudes and motivation. We embarked on a pilot study conducted for one month during which students were involved in a SSR activity for 10-15 minutes at the beginning of each ESP class based on the course topics.
