Summary/Abstract: Edgar Morin is one of the most significant French contemporary thinkers, a strong supporter of the idea that the complex world we live in must be the object of complex knowledge, not mutilated or shut. His whole work is built upon the analysis of the complexity of the real and human knowledge, on the denunciation of the claims and illusions of a closed rationality, on the analysis of the human condition in a global perspective, and not lastly, on exposing the shortcomings in learning and education. He outlines and develops a reform of thought and education, a reform that should be able to face the present and future challenges of human existence. It is necessary to cultivate and develop an open rationality that can face a disobedient real and is capable of dialogue with the irrational, unrational and super-rational.
