Summary/Abstract: The Catholic University of Lublin (KUL) in the period of People’s Republic of Poland was constantly under the control of the security apparatus (UB/SB). The surveillance on the university was conducted in frame of the object case code-named “Olimp” and then “Ciemnogród”. Due to supra-regional importance of the university, operational activities were undertaken not only by Lublin’s UB/SB structures but also by the headquarters of the anti-church division. Some tasks got regional units of the security apparatus involved in throughout the country. The UB/SB hindered scientific advancement of the KUL employees considered enemies of the system and supported loyal lecturers. As part of the disintegration efforts, university staff members were played off against professors, uncertainty surrounding further school fate was intensified, some teachers were compromising, etc. Since 1949, an agent network was systematically expanded, which in the 1980s included dozens of secret collaborators (both lecturers and students). Despite many years of intense security measures, the security apparatus failed to subdue and pacify the KUL environment.
