Summary/Abstract: By the end of the 1940s communist educational authorities tried to gain control over education and upbringing of the students of the Catholic University of Lublin (KUL). In order to do that they put pressure on the University authorities to agree to form organizations supported by the communist government: Union of Polish Academic Youth, Federation of Polish Student Organizations, and Polish Students’ Association. The University authorities of the time refused to legalise these organizations. Rector of the University Rev. prof. Antoni Słomkowski was against it. Because of his steadfast attitude he was removed from the University, arrested and imprisoned. Thanks to him the communist youth organizations were never legalised in KUL. The University authorities offered their students opportunities for participating in student clubs, a theatre, a choir, Academic Ministry, and also in scientific conferences, lectures and social meetings.
