Summary/Abstract: In 2017, two amendments to the Law on the National Council of the Judiciarywere adopted. The first one was vetoed by the president. However, the next amendmentwas not much different when it comes to important matters from the first one. Bothamendments were questioned as to their compliance with the Constitution, especially inregard to the method of appointing judges for the members of this body and because ofthe interruption of the constitutionally determined term of office of judges currentlysitting in the Council. The amendments were also critically assessed by the VeniceCommission.
