Summary/Abstract: Based on both the well-known European fairy tale and Yasunari Kawabata’s novel, Sleeping Beauty feature directed by Australian director Julia Leigh (presented at the Cannes Film Festival in 2011) focuses on the female element, opting for a protagonist-reflector that introduces the spectator to the underground world of modern elderly millionaires, self-conscious by the hostile consequences of andropause. The director explores through this modern pseudo-fairy-tale the current interhuman relationships, adopting a series of elements taken from the contemporary arsenal of crippled sexuality that oscillates between frustration and obscenity, without losing contact with the original, uncensored version of the story popularized by The Brothers Grimm.
