Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate that Shrek is more than a simple animation for children and that it uses constructs which apply to our day-to-day lives, irrespective of the fact that we are fully grown adults, dealing with taxes and bills. The plan is to detail the ways in which humour was generated, as well as explain how the film gained its success by deconstructing the classic notion of fairy tales and everything they invoke. Although not the first of its kind, Shrek sets the bar quite high for animations, comedies, rom-coms and realistically-portrayed relationships everywhere. Scenes in the film will be used as examples of the concepts herein described.
