Summary/Abstract: The intervention in social work is carried out using a specific methodology based on the specialized literature. The first step in the assisting process is initial assessment, which involves the identification of a set of elements (identity of the person/beneficiary, its personal history, the environment of its origin, the problems it faces, expectations and opinions, resources etc.) which are recorded in a document that is most often called the Initial Assessment Form. The present study highlights some practical aspects related to the initial assessment, but also emphasizes the importance of the initial assessment tool as a social document of analysis, its significance for the job of the social worker, and the informational and historical value it can have for a researcher in the social work field. The study also shows how an instrument, treated quantitatively, can provide an overview of a social category and their social issues. The study is personalized on the category of young people deprived of their liberty, whose initial assessment forms were analyzed (document analysis).
