Summary/Abstract: The article aims to analyse the innovations of the literary discourse, the rhetorical strategies and the modes of communication between the sender (the author) and the receiver (the reader), as they are shown in Pseudo-kinegetikos, by Alexandru Odobescu. We will analyse the author’s preoccupation with the democratization of literature specific to the 19th century and the methods he finds to put in place a couple of communications strategies in order to deliver his message in a way that allows the receiver to interpret and make use of it as the sender intended. To avoid misunderstandings when addressed to a large public, the essayist inserts in his text various allusions or explanations; rhetorical questions followed by an immediate answer and communicates directly with the subject in a friendly and ludic way. The essayistic prose of Odobescu needs to be interpreted as a modern text which stimulates the reader’s cultural competence. The corpus is constituted by fragments taken from the aforementioned text. The research methodologies are taken from literature, literary studies and pragmatics.
