Summary/Abstract: Th is article analyzes the situation of translations of Latin American literature in the Romanian cultural space since 1989. Th e presence of Latin American literature is quite visible but it can also be observed that the translated titles in Romania relate to the tradition of the literary boom. In the context of a relative crisis of reading and a decrease in print runs new authors and the most important contemporary titles penetrate this cultural space with certain difficulty. When comparing the number and quality of these translations with those made in the previous cultural period it can be observed that the political and economic coercions of the socialist period has been replaced by the constraints derived from the economic-cultural policies of the publishing market.
