Summary/Abstract: This brief overview emphasizes how the poor functioning of the Central University Library of Iaşi had determined a series of projects meant to reform the institution and how these were reflected in the media of the early 20th century. A special place is assigned to the project initiated in 1914 by Giorge Pascu, the director of the Library. The project aimed to achieve accurate records of books lent at home for a long time and of those that had been lost; to temporary arrange in the library the books published in fascicles and inventory of all the library’s journals; to monitor all the Romanian bibliographic writings, so that editors and authors who, contrary to law, do not send their publications to the library, to be identified; to lay down a statistic of fundamental publications essential for every modern library and which are missing from the one in Iaşi. The difficulties during the World War First prevented the achievement of these objectives; however, the energetic Giorge Pascu managed to initiate the modern cataloging of the library, and increased its heritage and number of employees.
