Summary/Abstract: The present paper intends to reveal, through some examples, the huge discrimination of women in Romanian proverbs which is not a singular one. All the popular cultures of mankind consider women as subordinate to Man, thus offering her a limited role both in History and Culture. These linguistic forms of oral communication represent a frame of the mentality of human collectivity in which women are criticized and interpreted sometimes not quite fairly and sometimes even strongly biased. Due to the fact that proverbs have gained authority in time, this fact still contributes nowadays to social discrimination of women in our society.
