Summary/Abstract: At the beginning of a new technological era - The fourth industrial revolution – we find ourselves in a society strongly shaped by technologically driven speed and an increasingly complex and uncertain environment which affects all areas of human life. In this context, businesses have to find new management approaches for overcoming technological anxiety and for harnessing the potential derived from ubiquitous computing. In order to find possible management strategies for coping with the current challenges, we analyse the following: first, the economic effects of technological change on organizations and employment; second, we identify some of the main features that a strategic approach should consider for sustaining competitiveness in such volatile times. We conclude that vigilance to the new, continuous investing in R&D (research and development) and in new technologies, as well as encouraging employees’ skill improvement by training programs and learning environments are among the bedrocks for surviving and striving in the new economy.
