Summary/Abstract: Our approach aims to present the feminine characters in Mateiu I. Caragiale's The Old Court Libertines and Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa's Il Gatopardo as illustrative for the Baroque seen as an eternal frame of mind in world culture, following the view articulated by Eugenio d'Ors. The complexity of the Baroque is easily recognized in the characters which transcend the classical restraints, showing contradictory personalities and often twisted individuals.
