Summary/Abstract: The European Union is a special subject of international law, which acts at international level upon rules of international intergovernmental organisations. At internal level, as stated in the Declaration no. 17 concerning primacy, attached to the Lisbon Treaty, “the Treaties and the law adopted by the Union on the basis of the Treaties have primacy over the law of Member States” in accordance with the integration method used for adopting European law by supranational institutions. Member States have accepted to transfer some of their competences/parts of their national sovereignty to this organisation in order to maintain peace, the well being of their peoples and the sustainable development of Europe.
