Summary/Abstract: The paper expands upon Dag Hammarskjӧld̕s poetic contribution entitled "Markings". Our basic reason for approaching the Swedish diplomat Dag Hammarskjӧld, one of the most influential U.N. Secretary Generals in the post WW II period from an interdisciplinary perspective arises from the fact that he was a contradictory personality often marked by unusual loneliness, alienation and self-doubt in spite of his strong belief in God. For properly depicting his inner strives for accomplishing perfect comunion with other people and unselfish dedication to them , both reflected in his poetic contribution "Markings" , Jung̕s process of individuation , Cioran̕s triad (denunciation, enunciation and transfiguration) and Lakoff ̕s conceptual metaphors have extensively been employed in our paper.
