Summary/Abstract: The paper analyzes the question of Bessarabia in the framework of the Romanian-Italian relations during the interwar period. Special attention is given to the political and diplomatic events related to the question of the delayed ratification by the Italian Parliament of the „Treaty on the recognition of the union of Bessarabia with Romania”, signed in Paris on the 28 October 1920. In the paper the causes of the delay are investigated as well as the Italian attitude towards Romania in the Bessarabian question. General Alexandru Averescu, a native of southern Bessarabia, headed by the Romanian government, played an important role in the actions aimed at convincing Italy's leadership to ratify the Bessarabian Treaty.
