Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the narrative methods and the role of the narrator in three novels by P. P. Read: Game in Heaven with Tussy Marx (1966), The Junkers (1968) and Monk Dowson (1969). The general analysis of the texts is meant to illustrate how the changes in narrative method and perspective help to unveil some of the main ideological issues of the twentieth century, as well as the dilemmas of the modern man, caught between the dangers of ideological commitment and moral nihilism.
