Summary/Abstract: The article explores the entrepreneurial potential of the Altai Territory, as well as the institutional mechanisms for its realization. The purpose of the study is to develop recommendations for developing the entrepreneurial potential of the Altai region population. The main approaches to the concepts of institutional mechanism and entrepreneurship are presented, foreign experience of entrepreneurship support is studied and the mechanism of support of small and medium business in Russia is studied. The analysis of development of small and medium business in the Altai Territory and analysis of institutional mechanisms for realizing the entrepreneurial potential of the population of the region have been carried out, problems have been identified, and ways for their solution have been examined. Measures have been developed to improve the support of small and medium-sized businesses, which are necessary for the confident growth of the entrepreneurial potential of the Altai region population.
