Summary/Abstract: After briefly evoking the Ottoman Empire’s context at the dawn of the First World War, the author demonstrates the Holy See’s diplomatic action by highlighting the circumstances and the impact of the letters sent by Pope Benedict XV to Sultan Mehmed V Reshad in 1915 and in 1918, as well as his actions to obtain guarantees and rights in favour of Kemalist Turkey’s Christian minorities once France had withdrawn from Silicia, and his efforts toward supporting the creation of an independ- ent Armenian State and sending humanitarian aid to Armenian victims.
