Summary/Abstract: Participation banking is a financial system in which goods and services are tightly linked with money, money-related transactions are strictly based on goods or services, and income is shared in profit and loss partnership.In this study, development of participation banking and preference for participation banking in Turkey were examined in terms of the cliens’ demographic characteristics. For this reason, a survey was conducted on 516 customers of 5 different participation banks in 23 different cities. The survey consisted of 23 questions with 5 likert-type items with, based on the demographic characteristics of the customers and the reasons why the customers preferred participation banks. In order to analyze the data, various descriptive statistics, test, one way ANOVA and multiple comparison statistics were used.As a result of the study, perception of customers related to the reason for preference for participation banks does not show a significant difference with only 5% of significance level considering sex, age, marital status, monthly income level. Perceptions of customers' preference for participation banks differ according to the level of education, at a 5% significance level.
