Summary/Abstract: Our study, based on direct field researches, brings to light some extra information on the very fascinating problems related to the ritual fabrics that are used in the funerary ceremony from Oltenia. Among the rites of passing, the ones related to the funeral have a conservative character and have kept, up until nowadays, in their structure, archaic manifestations and mentalities, ritual ideas and gestures. Accepted as a natural law, death is considered to be a long and mysterious journey towards another world, whose success depends, mainly, on the fulfilment of certain funerary practices that assure the secure leaving of This World, and the aggregation in that of the ancestors. Along other ritual elements and objects, fabrics have been perceived, in the collective memory, as components of great help, bearing special symbolism, and, on the other side, on addressing the relation between the living and the passed away, there was sought the aspect of communion, of cherishing and reencountering.
