Summary/Abstract: This paper attempts to summarise the body of knowledge and research carried out so far on the subject of the Reformation in private towns of the Crown. The work focuses on various issues, for example the question of whether the noble owners of towns forced their inhabitants to convert to a selected denomination. The geographical scope of the paper encompasses the Polish Crown, in particular its two provinces: Lesser Poland and Greater Poland, since no private towns existed in Royal Prussia in the 16th century. The chronological scope is indicated in the title of the article.
