Summary/Abstract: Children's literature as a separate trend was born at the turn of the 17th and the 18th century. Social concept begins to change and, at the same time, the place of the child in the new society. At the beginning, children's literature was almost exclusively subordinated to pedagogical theories, having only educational role. But in the second half of the 19th century it begins to flourish. In Poland, children's literature appeared quite late, in the Age of Enlightenment. Going through the stages of children's literature in Poland, we can observe that over the years the trends have changed and we can distinguish several trends and dominant models in each period.
