Summary/Abstract: It is beyond any doubt that the importance of international commercial law is constantly growing. This is one of the consequences of the globalization. The article presents a review and a critical analysis of the views relating to the nature of the international commercial law, which have been presented in the European doctrine in the recent years. The author proposes his own definition of the international commercial law. He concludes, that if seen in the light of theoretical rules of taxonomy of legal branches, the international commercial law should be understood as the body of substantive, conflict of law and procedural rules, which govern private law relationships between the parties relating to international economic activity, which were enacted at the international level, i.e. in agreements between states or established by international organizations.
