Summary/Abstract: The phenomenon of fake news is a very specific phenomenon and its significance is gaining momentum in the last few years. However, the phenomenon itself has its roots in a period as early as the antiquity. This article aims at defining the term “fake news” and at answering the question – how can a news be fake, how we can recognise it, what is it that makes fake news spread so fast and what are the ways and the measures that individuals, organisations and institutions can take in order to prevent and suppress disinformation.
