The Contemporary Concept(s) of Food Security

Summary/Abstract: The concept(s) of food security represent the framework and the context in which the contemporary battle against the world hunger take place. This pa per, along with the explanations of basic terms and the attempt of solving certain theoretical doubts, analisys and critical review, also shows the deve lopmental pathways of these concepts from their initial formation to their contemporary form. Special attention is focused on the so-called “four pi llars of food security” – availability, access, utilization and stability – their interconnectedness and interdependence, as well as the broader implicati ons of these concepts on human welfare, seen through the overview of the current situation in the field of nutrition in the world.
