Summary/Abstract: The Hymn to Christ the Saviour written by Clement of Alexandria is the first Christian hymn written in Hellenic style, influenced by Greek lyrical poetry. In spite of this, few people studied this work attributed to Clement.Filling this gap would be the aim of our study. In the first part we try to find out the place it occupied in the service of ancient Christians. After that we examine the metrics of the hymn – attempting to find out which of the branches of Greek lyrical poetry it belongs to.This is followed by the hymn’s exegesis. In the second part we try to trace down the melody of the poem as well as the manner in which it could have been interpreted.
