Summary/Abstract: In this paper, we present Calvin’s opinion in his Institute concerning the Gnostic and ecclesiological heresies of the Early Church. Four major groups of heretics are discussed: Marcion, the Manicheans, Donatism and Novatianism. It can be observed that the reason why Calvin accorded such a broad attention to these heretics was due to their reappearing role in some religious movements of his age. Secondly, it is important to mention that Calvin acquired his knowledge of these heretics from secondary sources. Finally, it is important to see that Calvin’s main motivation in condemning heretics was his love towards the Church.
