NASTANAK I RAZVOJ SOCIOLOGIJE TURIZMA
EMERGENCE AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE SOCIOLOGY OF TOURISM

Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the process of emergence and development and also the general profile of the contemporary Sociology of Tourism concluded from international research: 1) detailed socio-historical analysis and evaluation of the development of this science in Europe and USA; 2) research of theoretical basis (i. e. tourism and socio-scientific background) of the Sociology of Tourism; 3) research of "borderlines" between the Sociology of Tourism and other sociological disciplines such as social psychology and anthropology. Besides some general descriptions of the background and development of the Sociology of Tourism, some specific characteristics are also explained: main authors, basic concepts, subject-matter and some elements of institutionalization. The last part deals with the review of Croatian Sociology of Tourism which has constantly been developing.
