Summary/Abstract: The article highlights how ecclesiastical events and personalities were evoked during the communist period in the official press. In particular, the newspaper „România liberă” published from time to time news about church life. For conjunctural political reasons these events did not appear in the media because of an ideological idiosyncrasy to obstruct the presence of the Church in public space. References to religious life and appearances of hierarchs in the press were produced by events initi- ated by the State through the Department of Cults. Since the beginning of the 70s, the existence of church life was to be “recalled” in the press, only when the central authorities of the Church had administrative events or ecumenical reunions. All these accounts were severely censored.
