The Role of Market Mechanisms in the New Economic System

Summary/Abstract: The paper analyzes the significance and functions of market mechanisms as key components of the economic system evolving in Yugoslavia, starting with the Constitutional Amendments in November 1988 and ending with the recently launched platform for the preparation of new Republican and Federal Constitutions. On the basis of a theoretical analysis, the author concludes his paper with a proposed set of principles for the development of a new economic system. This proposal requires further theoretical elaboration, but at the same time it sufficiently indicates the nature of a possible economic system, whose elements are already emerging.
