Summary/Abstract: APPLIED ETHNOLOGY During the past decade, several projects have been developed in Bulgaria, aimed at the intercultural prospects of secondary education. One of them - "History and Culture of the Roma" - was carried out by the Foundation of Interethnic Initiative for Human Rights. The main objective of the project has been, according to its coordinators, the presentation of the history and culture of the Roma as a specific part of the Bulgarian national history and culture. This was to be achieved by way of the development of new school material included the textbooks in Bulgarian language and literature, history and music for the elementary, primary and secondary school; five manuals for teachers and three audio cassettes of Gypsy music. During the 1997-1998 school year the appendixes devoted to the history and culture of the Roma were used in 35 select schools in 24 towns and cities of the country. The study outlines and analyses the results of the application of that pilot project.
