Summary/Abstract: Grammar and style books restrain the use of mits to a few grammatical constructions. Language users do not care about those restrictions and tend to vary, but always in respect to the semantic regularity described by Saskia Daalder: mits p, q (with q = the desired status for which p = conditio sine qua non). A new mits-construction arises in the twentieth century: the lexicalised Ja, mits.
