Summary/Abstract: The author studies Hegel’s attitude towards the causes and the results of the French Revolution. Hegel speaks of two kinds of causes: those of an intellectual nature (philosophy) and those which are economic and legal (social inequality). Hegel’s attitude towards the French Revolution is not unambiguous. He does not fully agree with the principle of freedom (from the first stage of the revolution) and he allows revolutionary terror to be a means for the establishment of a new political order.
