Summary/Abstract: This article describes the historical and philosophical development of the concept of values, from the ethics of the distribution of goods to the ethics of values and the contemporary sociology of culture. The author explains Scheler’s theoretical inference of the relationship between the concepts of labour an values (ethics) and his attempt at »transcending the kingdom of labour«.
