Summary/Abstract: Information and its value it discussed. The connection between information and entropy is stressed and it is pointed out that a neglect of the practical value of information is a serious deficiency of information theory. The article is partly based on a lecture delivered in the University of Missouri in Kansas City (Missouri, USA) on November 11, 1986.
